1891 Buteshire (Rothesay) Scotland McDougall
« on: Thursday 03 March 05 02:38 GMT (UK) »
Hello From Australia.......I am hoping to find who lived in my great Gran's home......after they migrated to Australia in May 1885.

I always thought they had sold it....but I have since learnt relatives took it over.....so I believe the name would still be McDougall.....but possibly McCallum.

I hope someone could please look up 'Canada Cottage' Rothesay, Bute, Scotland, in the 1891 census for me...& tell me who was living there then.

On the 1881 census these numbers '558' & '24'.....are at the top of the page.......so that may help???

Thanks in advance, Jeanette   :)

Jeanette,
Hi I am from Rothesay, on the Isle of Bute. If you write to the local paper I,m sure they will print it for you they do it quite often. I will try and check the local library when i,m home next. The local newspaper is called the buteman and if you just write it to the editor, c/o The Buteman, Rothesay, Isle of Bute, Scotland PA20 it will get there.
Canada Cottage i think is on Canada Hill which was so named as you could see the ships which would take emigrants to Canada.
