Need a hand...
« on: Monday 24 August 09 19:42 BST (UK) »
Hi there,

I need some help deciphering the maiden name of Isabella Leith. It looks a bit like Warrick or Warnick. But I need a second (or third) opinion.

Thanks

Hi Antadam.

Could it be WARRACK. There is this IGI entry on www.familysearch.org, not for Mary but perhaps a sibling:

ALEXANDER LEITH  Christening: 18 JUN 1796 Echt, Aberdeen
Parents:ALEXR. LEITH and ISOBEL WARRACK

Here's potentially Mary's entry to those parents: MARY LEITH Christening 24 JUL 1803 in Echt, Aberdeen. Spelling of mother's surname is WARRAK.

Yes,I am! There is a christening of an Isobel Warracks,10 Oct 1780,Cluny.Oh & in case you'd like to know,I found Mary & John in freecen. In 1841 & 1851 censuses they are at Garlogie Wool Mill,Skene. The info in the 1851 census confirms Mary's birthplace as Echt.

Thanks very much for that info.

I have both of those census' - so thats brilliant.

The christening record you have seen for isobel warracks - does it list her parents? Long shot i know :)

I couldnt find that particular record when i searched on familysearch.

Thanks

No wonder you could n't find it!  Sorry,my mistake - there is a submitted birth entry for an Isobel Warracks born c.1780,Cluny. It may be best to disregard it! The date I quoted was,of course, the marriage date of Isobel to Alex.Leith.  I have also spotted a marriage of an Ann Warracks,23/6/1776,Cluny,to Alexander Abel.Perhaps this could be Isobel's sister? I note she is buried in Cluny graveyard. Her date of death is 19th July 1858, so her certificate will be found in scotlandspeople. In familysearch there are the christenings,in Cluny, of John 5/5/1754 & Jean 19/03/1761.Their parents were John Warrock & Margaret Duncan. I agree it's a long shot but perhaps if you viewed the OPR's in scotlandspeople you may find more information.
