Hello John, yes my Granddad was in a support group, before they left for Africa they were training on mortars and vickers machine guns, I have quite a few photos myself but i think most were taken when he was in the KRRC.

Hello John....again hopefully this third post will enable you to e-mail me, incidentally my granddad was a regular in the KRRC joing in the late 1920`s and won a 2nd place in the machine gun cup with the KRRC, i have that medal, he also took part in pistol shooting on a combat style range and won a trophy for that, but it disappeared many years ago.
He used to scoff at the movie`s when you used to see the the police carrying there pistols pointing in the air, or at the ground or going around a corner close to the wall with the pistol in the wrong hand.

Hi All,

I'm new to this forum. I just stumbled across it while doing some research on my father's time at Anzio. He was killed in action there on 29th January 1944 while serving in the 2/7 Bn. He was a Lieutenant and his name was Edward Roderick Barnett. I do have some letters received by my mother at the time of his death from other officers and a member of his platoon. I don't have the details to hand at the moment but would be pleased to exchange information in due course. Does his name come up in your research?

John Barnett

Hello Jebpen,
I have definitely heard of your grandad, and in fact he is mentioned in a personal diary I have. The diary was written by Lt. James Hill, who was my fatherīs Platoon Commander late 1944. He also commanded another platoon (from the same Company) on the Anzio Beachhead, but he only arrived there on 14th Fenruary, a couple of weeks after your grandad died.   He was evidently friends with Lt. Barnet at OCTU.
Iīd love to see what you have in the way of letters/photos. I have done a huge amount of research into the Battalion so Iīm sure I can be of help to you, too. If you post three times, you can send (receive, too) personal messages.
John

Sorry, John, I said "grandad", I meant to say "dad".

John,

That was quick! I would be delighted to exchange info but it will be a few days before I can find the time to dig it all out.

I will continue with a third post just to get things started.

John
