Hi silky,

Welcome to RootsChat.

With so little information on Bryan it's highly unlikely that you will get any more information here.

Are you jumping from an 1861 Death cert to a c. 1798 birth or have you done all the intermediate research in Australia?

You will not find a birth record and very few parish records survive from 1798 but you might get lucky.

The more details you can supply here the more likely your chances of success.

Good luck with your research.

Dara.

This is the closest match I could find in the NA:

Lastname:  DEVLIN
Firstname:  BRYAN
Sex:  M
Imprisonment place:  Kilmainham, Dublin
Document date:  21/07/1804
Petitioner:  Convict
Document ref1:  PPC 908
Comment:  Convcit was arrested in August 1803 with his wife and family (three sons and four daughters). States that his wife and five children were later released,  but that his sixteen years old son and one daughter are still being detained.

You've a query here for a Barnabus Devlin b.c1798 who arrived in Australia on "Dorothy"- is this the same person or another relative?

I'm quite aware that the 1804 reference I posted is too early for your Bryan/Barnabus.

I am suggesting that there may have been a history of criminality in the family. As far as I know there were no major incidents of 'Irish Patriotism' in the region of 1818-1820.

It seems too late for the Young Irelanders and too early for The Land League.

Perhaps I'm missing something here.

Dara.

hi dara
yes he is the same person alias Devilian /Devlyn/Devilin/Develin.Because of copyright I cannot indulge in where I read this rebel bit maybe the author had it wrong I havent  got his criminal background but he received 7 yrs for his crime.
His trade was a dyer.He became a constable at Kissing point Sydney Nsw for many yrs .
Most convicts did become police in australia as their crimes were petty only the very hardened criminals were kept under lock and key
