Hi,

This looks confusing, in 1841 Martha (no marital status given) has Alfred 10 and Alice 8 living with her,

1841  HO107/522/13  f.8  p.8  Wigan
Township of Ince in Makerfield
Amberwood Common

Martha ELLISON    35    Weaver
Alfred                 10
Alice                   8         All born in County

I found this extracted baptism on the IGI,

Alice ELLISON
Birth:  07 Dec 1832
Christening:  07 Apr 1833   Wigan
Father:  John ELLISON
Mother:  Martha

so it appears Alfred could also be the son of John and Martha :) but...

In 1851 widow Martha has Alfred 19 and Sarah 6 with her,

1851  HO107/2200  f.72  p.8  Ince  (Registration district: Wigan)
Petticoat Lane

Martha ELLISON   W    45    Cotton Weaver  Lancashire Ince
Alfred                 U    19    Coal Miner             "            "
Sarah                        6     Scholar                "            "

There are two Sarah ELLISONs born in Wigan district at abouth the right time,

Sarah ELLISON    Jun Q 1845    Wigan    21  134

Sarah ELLISON    Dec Q 1845    Wigan    21  789

I think the former could be the daugther of 'your' Martha as I found the following extracted entries on the IGI,

Sarah ELLISON
Birth:  06 May 1845
Christening:  01 Jun 1845   Wigan
Father:  William ELLISON
Mother:  Martha

Sarah ELLISON
Birth:  05 NOV 1845
Christening:  17 NOV 1845   Wigan
Father:  John ELLISON
Mother:  Sarah

So getting the first birth certificate should give the Martha's maiden name and whether she was married to John or William, or show if she was fibbing about being a widow and was really a single woman.
Maybe Martha ?? married John ELLISON then after he died she married William ELLISON. There are alot of ELLISONs in the area :-\

This site explains the difference between extracted and submitted records on the IGI,

Alternatively you could get Alfred's marriage cert. to see what it says for father,

Alfred ELLISON    Jun Q 1855    Wigan    8c  30
Jane ROGERS with same details.

Hi Daisy,
Thanks for all tha. I realloy appreciate you taking the time. I guess the best option is to get Alfred's wedding cert. Then, hopefully, I can progress from there.
Regards, Marody
