Can someone help me see this?!
« on: Tuesday 01 September 09 10:46 BST (UK) »
Hello,

This is a headstone of my family member in Buckinghamshire. I can just about make out 'Died Oct 30th 1866' and below that 'Aged 4 Years' but there is a passage I can't read underneath. I will be amazed if anyone can help me!

Thanks
Matt

It seems to begin "....child of"   and ends "to GOD".

If you are able to go to the grave I would suggest cleaning it gently with a brush and wetting the stone with clean water, I did that on an old near illegible sandstone headstone and I managed to make out the full inscription. I was lucky as I caught it soon enough, after the following winter the inscription was lost.

Unfortunately I think it was the only time I will get to see this grave in quite a while... I have tried the technique before but didn't expect such intricate passages to be inscribed so didn't bring a paintbrush, foil or water.

Perhaps if you look in on the Buckinghamshire section of the forum someone there might be willing and able to go to the cemetery and help you out. There are some very kind souls about. I'd go for you myself except I am 200 miles away from Bucks.
