I can see Annie Stamford on earlier censuses but no George Tate born Middlesborough at all  :(

I may have a possible candidate after all:

1871 census
RG10/4896 74 22
Linthorpe, Yorkshire
17 Kendal St

Robert Date, head, 26, Labourer (Ironworks), b. York Lockington
Hannah Eliz, wife, 24, b. Beverley
George, son, 5 mo, b. Middlesbro

The surname is clearly Date on the census image, but previous censuses don't show a Robert Date born ca. 45 Lockington - there is however a matching Robert Tate

George's age matches a Dec 1870 birth registration of a George Tate in Stockton registration district (covered Middlesbrough) - there isn't a birth for a George Date around the same time.

Not sure where they all disappear to after 1871  :P

Really don't know why it took me so long to find him in 1881!  ???

RG11/4780 83 19

The transcription is very strange though - I'll post my own interpretation in a mo. The original helps confirm a marriage I found earlier:

Dec 1869 Beverley 9d 238
Robert Tate - Nora Elizabeth Cooper

Shall we trace Annie Stamford back now?

I suppose you've found her in 1881 with widowed father Charles and many siblings. Here she is in 1871, mother still alive:

1871
RG10/4771 68 16
Lockington, Yorkshire

Charles Stamford, head, 38, Builder & Machinist, b. Beverley
Sarah, wife, 32, b. Beswick
Emily, dau, 12, b. Lockington
Elizabeth A, dau, 9, b. do.
Charles H?, son, 6, b. do.
Sarah, dau, 4, b. do.
Ellen, dau, 3, b. do.
Anne, dau, 1, b. do.
John R Wilson, apprentice, unm, 19, Machinist Apprentice, b. Hull

Marriage Charles Stanford to possibly Sarah Clark
Dec 1857 Beverley 9d 227

1851
HO107/2359 299 15
Beverley St Mary, Yorkshire
Walkergate

Hutchinson Stamford, head, 51, Machine Maker, b. Beverley
Elizabeth, wife, 52, b. Brand? Burton
Charles, son, 19, Blacksmith Journeyman, b. Beverley
Sarah, dau, 8, at home, b. do.

Sarah Clark(e) was already in service at age 12 in 1851  >:(

This might be her in 1841:

HO107/1218/6 13? 2
Beswick, Yorkshire

John Clark, 25, Tailor
Mary, 25
Sarah, 2
Ellen, 7 mo

The family are in Lockington by 1851.

Hutchinson Stamford's birth and marriage are on the IGI at www.familysearch.org

There's also a likely christening for William Cooper

:)You people are amazing!  Thank you so much for all this information.  And the Date/Tate man is an interesting one.  I am going to have to map it all out for myself so that I can have a better look.  Many thanks again.  I really appreciate it.
