Two responses in one day - amazing!
Many thanks for the war medal info - am now in contact with the company selling them - look forward to hearing how they got hold of them and what the "research" is that they hold as well.  Hadn't realised what prices these medals go for

Much appreciative of all this info
Thanks and regards
Barbara

Hi
Interesting post.

The surname Kenny  also linked to Portarlington - will make a phone-call on that and get back to you.

Weldon Deverell  - May be links with Mountmellick and Coolbanagher - in adjoining Queens County (Laois).  Will do a search and get back on this too.
 ;)

Hi again
Just had a look - There seems to be  Weldon Deverell, born Ireland c1795 with a brother William, born c1800 and sister/?twin Christina born c1800 - not sure but looks like their Father may have been Robert born c 1750..... no idea of mother.  Probably from Laois or Offaly.

Interested if anyone can verify these? :-\

Good wishes,

Thanks everyone for all this info. Re the Wolfenden kenny medal, have now spoken to Dixons who acquired it from Spink of London last year. Rang Spink today - the medal was in a collection they sold last yr on behalf of a Lee E Bishop of the US who had recently died.  Where Mr Bishop acquired my grt grt grt grandfather's medal, I guess I'll never know.

Re the Weldon Deverall info - which is the best site to look for Irish births? Is it dependant on the county - no idea which one old Wolfie was born!

Many thanks and all the best

Hi again

Just found in Griffiths Valuation - for Monasterevin in Co. Kildare
Deverell        Samuel    Grangecoor
Deverell        Samuel    Stramillian
Deverell        Weldon    Clonegath

Also found that there is a headstone for a Weldon Deverell in Mountmellick Church of Ireland Graveyard.  Will have a look when I get the chance. :)

Good wishes,

Danishdots, thanks for that info on the Deverells.

Just had amazing stroke of luck on Wolfenden Kenny, his place & date of birth, and his father's name. Someone else also researching around him spent valuable time at the British Library and discovered papers relating to his becomming a cadet in thr Indian army.  Apparetly all cadets had to provide parish confirmation of their age etc. - it reads
"we do hereby certify that Wolfinden Kenny son of Simon Kenny of Mt Melick James (?) County Ireland was born in said town parish of Rosmallis on 18th Nov 1780. " It was dated 18/1/1801.

They also discovered that a Simon Kenny was listed as a merchant who died in 1806.
So where to go now to hunt down Simon Kenny, his wife etc. etc. Feel  a trip to Ireland coming on.
Any help much appreciated. All the best, Barbara
