« on: Saturday 05 September 09 19:26 BST (UK) »
Hello can anyone help me find missing parents on the 1911 census,
Lionel Smith born 1904,Durham,
son of Jacob Smith and Annie Eliza Glenville, who were married in Gateshead.
In the 1911 Census, Lionel is  aged 7, and living with his grandmother in Blyth ,Cowpen,Tynemouth,I cant find his parents in Durham or Northumberland ,or their deaths,
Thankyou  ,Gillian

Hi Gillian,

Do you have Jacob and Eliza's dates of birth and birthplaces from earlier census?

Have you checked the 1911 addresses from marriage cert or Lionel's birth cert?

From "The Times" 21 Feb 1911
"The South Australian Government with the object of meeting the demand that exists for labour in South Australia, has resolved to revive the provisions of the old Immigration Act so that assisted passages may be granted to (1) those who are closely related to nominators; (2) rural workers and their families; (3) persons whose occupations are not congested in the State; (4) elected farm labourers and domestic servants upon people requiring their services paying assisted rates.
For the present immigrants will be assisted only from the United Kingdom, self-governing British Colonies, and the United States. A special immigration officer will be appointed in England. The nominator pays £4 and the Government the balance of the passage money."

Hi

Do you have Jacob and Eliza's dates of birth and birthplaces from earlier census?

www.ancestorsonboard.com free index search has several entries for Jacob Smith emigrating between 1903 and 1911 but without knowing his birthyear it is impossible to find a match - same for Eliza

Hi Carole,

that's why I asked the question!   :)

Gill, do I take it that you don't have their ages or birthplaces then?  Don't you have either their marriage or Lionel's birth certs?

As Carole says, without more information it's difficult to find them, especially with surname Smith.  Jacob's occupation would help too.

There is no Jacob Smith travelling with an Ann (variants checked) on the same voyage in the outgoing passenger lists, although plenty of Jacobs travelling.
