« on: Saturday 05 September 09 19:33 BST (UK) »
Looking for a famly entry of one Martha Harriet Crump, born around 1829, in East Barnet. Believe parents may be John Crump and Maria. Hoping still living at home in 1841 or 51

Hi Jeremy,

Found an Index entry for a CRUMP family 1841 reference HO107/699/2 F.48 P.18. John Street, South Hackney.
John 30, Maria 30, Martha 12, Georgana 10, John 3 and Louisa 3m.
The actual record is virtually unreadable.

Is this your  family?.

Thanks for suc a quick reply. Looks like a likely candidate. I am following this p for a friend, all I had to go on originally was a Martha, born E Barnet as a wife of a Thomas Goldsmith. Got the Crump name from free BMD Martha as daughter of John and Maria from IGI.
With the Hackney family just need to tie it back to E Barnet. Maybe through the 1851?

Hi Jeremy,

The 1851 records John and Maria at 22 West Street, Bethnal Green.

John 48 Butcher bn.Middlesex
Maria 47                  Cambridgeshire
John  12                   Middlesex
Louisa  10                Middlesex.

No trace of Martha but there is a marriage for a Martha CRUMP in the St.Pancras District Dec quarter 1847 Vol.1/315.

Hope this helps.

Hi Jeremy,

The 1871 records Thomas and Martha GOLDSMITH and 5 children at 13 West Street, Bethnal Green.  At 22 West Street is John CRUMP 70 widower Butcher and his grandaughter Matha GOLDSMITH age 10.

Have we made the right connection?.

That's great and seems to confirm we have the right Crump family here. I started out with trying to trace Martha - the wife of Thomas Goldsmith.

What place of birth is given for John Crump in 1871, hoping it is more precise than Middlesex.

Thank you again.

Jeremy

Jeremy,

The 1871 gives John Crump's place of birth as SOMERS TOWN.
