WW1 MILITARY MEDAL
« on: Friday 04 March 05 14:26 GMT (UK) »
Can anyone give me any ideas on how to find out what my grandfather did to be awarded the Military Medal in WW1.
I know his regiment, service number and that it was for when he was at Salonica but that is as far as I know, hope someone can point me in the right direction, from Maureen.

you could try putting the `london gazette`into a search engine. They have  searchable WW1 records. I recently found similar info on one of my ancestors there.

I may have posted on this topic before as "Salonika" rings a bell .............

To add to Sheddyg's info:

The following is a very good WW1 site and their forum is particularly useful:

http://www.1914-1918.net/

He may have been mentioned in the war diaries of his unit/regiment.  These are at the National Archives in Kew:

My own gt grandfather, like many many others, was presented with the same medal so am in a similar boat as yourself.

Best wishes
