you can look at 1881 census free at family search - which would give you some of their other children

there is this Edward

1861
Golden Cup Row
Aberystwth Cardiganshire
Edward Jones head M 41 iron Miner Llanfihangel cardigan
Mary wife 40 Cardigan
John son 16 Coal miner cardigan
David son 14 Iron Miner Monmouth
mary daughter 12 cardigan
EDWARD son 10 Iron Miner Cardigan
Elizabeth daughter 4 Aberystwyth Monmouth
Richard son 1 Royner? Glamorgan
RG9 3897 70 45

there is another Edward -a year younger

but the Edward I have quoted was living in clarence Row Rymney in 1871 age 20
1881 he is age 30
1901 he is age 48

so I am assuming you guessed his y.o.b. from 1901 census

really with a name like Jones -in Wales you need as much info as possible before trying to guess parentage

His marriage cert would give father's name and occupation

Suz
Thornhill, Cresswell, Sisson, Harriman, Cripps, Eyre, Walter, Marson, Battison, Holmes, Bailey, Hardman, Fairhurst Noon-mainly in Derbys/Notts-but also Northampton, Oxford, Leics, Lancs-England

Hi Suz,

Thank you for looking, i was told his date of birth by his grandson, i have  just found where his daughter lived 1909 so i will look on the 1911 census hopefully her father is there, i  have about seven Jones family surnames  and most of them John it s a nightmare!
