Patrick FORBES
« on: Wednesday 16 September 09 05:20 BST (UK) »
I am trying to find a Patrick FORBES from Ireland who emigrated to Sydney Australia in 1852 aboard the Lady Kennaway. I know it's a long shot. I believe he went to Plymouth to board the ship. He had a wife, Jane and 2 or 4 children. Two of the children may have died before he left Ireland.
I did try the web page that "your pete" suggested but no luck.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks Ellenor

Full civil registration started here in Ireland in 1864 and you would need to know a townland or parish to start a search of parish records (if they still exist) to find further information on Patrick and family. Non-Catholic marriage registration commenced in 1845 so there could be a marriage listed, if that applies to Patrick .. the civil index can be searched at this familysearch link : http://pilot.familysearch.org/recordsearch/start.html#p=2;t=searchable;c=1408347

You should find some details on Forbes families in Ireland on Griffiths Valuation which was a taxation survey carried out in the 1850s and 60s. This only lists heads of household, but could be usefull in seeing where various Forbes families lived. It's available (free) at this website :  http://griffiths.askaboutireland.ie/gv4/gv_family_search_form.php

p.s. not sure which website you are referring to..

if you go through www.google.com when the box comes up type in Ireland in Maps
The Forbeses of Castle Forbes, Co. Longford settled in 1620 very imported family in Scotland, majority of people with this name in Ireland are off scottish stock, but in Connacht they were MacFirbisigh whose name was anglilized Forbes.

Hello Ellenor
I realize this is a very old post, so I'm hoping my message will reach you.
My fiance is Malcolm Forbes a direct descendant of Patrick Forbes and we are researching the Forbes family.  Are you also a descendant?
We would love to get in touch with you if possible.  This is the first time I have used RootsChat, so I'm unsure how I may receive a response from you.

If possible, my email address is (*)

Hope to hear from you

Kind regards
Sharon Austin

Hi sharon,

I am sorry but the member has not replied to your message, I checked and can see that she had turned off notifications on this topic (maybe accidentally) I sent a PM and that has gone though to them so hopefully they will reply soon.

Regards

Sarah

I was looking up my own Forbes glassworkers Rob, originally from Edinburgh who moved to Dudley in the Black Country, and found glassworkers of the same name but from Ireland.
