Thank you CaroleW

Just wondered if I'm on the right track. I think Betsy's parents could be Michael Taylor and Elizabeth Whitehead. Married 1802 Orton ? just maybe ?

Meant to say, Barney was beautiful. Have three furry companions myself.

I also saw that IGI entry but because Betty died before the 1851 census - her full birthplace is not known.  We only know she was born in Westmorland

If the marriage cert shows her father as Michael - Bingo!!

Have found Christening record for Betty Taylor, 5th May 1816, Krkby Lonsdale, (I take it births are always 'about') father Michael Taylor, mother Betty !

Hi

That's the record I was referring to above sorry - not the 1802 marriage you found.

It was very inconsiderate of her to die before the 1851 census so we don't know whether she was b Kirby Lonsdale or Preston Patrick!!

Are you going to get a copy of the 1840 marriage cert to find her fathers name?

Hi

Yes, eventually. I have found though that these don't mean much. Mary Ellen Taylor gave her father as James Taylor on her marriage cert. Where did she get that from ?

Agnes Brockbank   Kendal  10b 1078
Jacob Crossfield

Daughter Betty b 1846 died

Many illegitimate children made up a fathers name when they married so as to appear "respectable"
