Albert Pomeroy b 1899
« on: Monday 21 September 09 13:27 BST (UK) »
I'm trying to break down a brick wall...

I'm 95% sure Albert Pomeroy was born in 1899 in Limerick, son of John Pomeroy, Policeman.

But I can't find a single jot of evidence.... (just lots of hints and family recollections)

I can find nothing in the 1911 census, no pomeroys listed. Is this now complete? Is there a way to look up the 1901 census?

Please someone help as I'm stuck before I have even started!!

Thanks
Tracey

I dont see any Pomeroy births in Co. Limerick around the right time on the familysearch Civil index (http://pilot.familysearch.org/recordsearch/start.html#p=2;t=searchable;c=1408347)

The 1911 census data is complete, but the National Archives are correcting transcription errors etc. The 1901 data is being processed at the moment and is due on-line early next year.

Thanks for looking Shane.

Its very frustrating, as we have his marriage certificate and that is about it. He left Ireland to serve in WW1, and didnt return, but married in 1924 in England (Northumberland).

His father also reputedly died in the troubles, but again I can find no record.

Again the only county that has ever been mentioned is Limerick.

Looks like I am going to have to wait for the 1901 census!

Thanks again

Tracey

I had a quick look through all the male Pomeroy's on the 1911 data - not one policeman. There was an Army man stationed on Bear Island, Cork - a Royal Engineer.

Very few Pomeroy births in Ireland - most seem to be in Northern Ireland or in Cork, although there are a few entries listed in Co. Limerick in the 1950s, and one in the 1920s

I have been through the 1911 as well. You would think with such a distinctive name, he would be easy to find, or even wth the police reference. (policeman comes from the marriage cert and from family recollections)

But theres nothing!!

Very frustrating!

Thanks again
