1920/Franklin Co. Missouri/Emil Foelke
« on: Saturday 05 March 05 18:34 GMT (UK) »
Hi!!
Would somebody kindly take the time to find Emil Foelke in the 1920 USA census, in Franklin County, Missouri. I found this entry whilst making a basic free search for Foelke records in the USA, but it did not give a birth year of locality, sorry.

My GG Grandfather was named Emil Foelke. Before WW2 he was an Engineer. Apparently, he left Silesia in Germany and went to the USA for a few years to help develop some kind of aircraft technology so, I'm taking any chances I can get to find info on him!! Any help of advice, exceeding a census lookup would most appreciated.

Thanks for reading!!

Ryan.

Ryan...

I found the entry in the Franklin Co, Mo. Census for 1920 you were speaking of.. there were 4 children listed with the Foelke last name..
They were listed as being born  in Missouri and were Step children to the head of household. I dont thikn this is who you were looking for..

Hi,

I'm aware that the original post is somewhat old (if not ancient), however I'd love to know if you have any information regarding the Foelke family.

My greatgreatgrandmother was Antonina Małasińska née Foelke, born in Kraków, Poland on 9th of June 1848. Her parents were Jan Foelke (Fölke/Folke/Felke depends on the spelling) and Agata Surówka. Jan Foelke was propably born in Krakow to Franciszek (Franz perhaps?) and Joanna Foelke around 1807. He had at least 9 children, 3 of them died in the infancy – Tomasz (1837–1894), Julianna (ca 1840–1876), Franciszek (1843–1886), Karol (1847–1894), Antonina (my greatgreatgrandmother, 1848–1932), Stefan (1850–1893), Aleksander (1855–1856), Władysław (1857–1857), Edward (1860–1860). My greatgreatgreatgrandfather Jan Foelke was a ropemaker and he passed the trade down to his sons.
I was wandering if there might be a at least small chance of a family connection since the Foelke surname is rather rare.
Best regards :)

Hi Ewa,

Sorry for the late reply. Thanks for sharing your family details. I wish I could say there is a connection but there are no familiar names.

Do you have a tree on ancestry? If so please send me a private message here and we can share tree access.

Hi, thanks for reply. Unfortunately I don't have a tree on Ancestry. I could send you a gedcom file if you're interested.

After the message I posted I've found some more information about the Foelke family. Apparently my greatgreatgreatgrandfather Jan Foelke was in fact Johann Voelke, born on 11.12.1807 in Militsch (now Milice, in Upper Silesia to Franz and Johanna née Krautwurst. He had four siblings: Marianna (5.09.1800-?, married name Englisch), Franz Joseph (1803-1806), Johanna (1805-1814) and Franz (born 1810). His father, Franz Voelke (Foelke) was born around 1770 and died on 19th September 1812 in Militsch.
Maybe there is some Silesian connection after all.
Best regards.

Hi Ewa,

I do everything on my iPhone and ancestry so unfortunately I can’t open a ged file.

Possibly my Great (3x) Grandfather was named Freidrich Wilhelm Voelke b. 1850 in Pleschen (now Pleszew). Son of Ernst Voelke and Johanna Mieszczynska.

I’ll keep you in mind and hope we find a connection one day.

Best,

Ryan.

Hi again Ewa,

Can I clarify that Militsch is now named Milicz? It is situated between Olesnica and Pleszew? Foelke/Voelke is such a rare surname I feel it’s likely we’re related. If you ever do an AncestryDNA test let me know!

I have established that my likely ancestor Josephine Mieszczynska married two Voelke men, Gottlieb AND Ernst. Gottlieb was born 1813 in Pleszew.
