SPENCE and HAMILTON families
« on: Wednesday 20 April 05 09:00 BST (UK) »
Please can SKS help in finding the Hamilton family from Co Donegal?

All I know is:

Father- William Hamilton - labourer in 1849
daughter - Mary Jane Hamilton

Mary Jane married an Alexander Spence in Strabane, Raphoe in 1849.

William Hamilton would have died after 1849!

I don't know who his wife was or have any birth/marriage or death dates other that Mary Janes marriage and that only says she was full age when marrying, so over 21, b.c. 1828?

I am working on the assumption they came from the Raphoe area.

Any help gratefully accepted.  Thank you.

I have found my Eliza/beth Spence marrying in the Church of Raphoe in August 1877.

She states her residence at the time as in Milltown in the Parish of Raphoe.

Her parents Mary Jane and Alexander Spence also lived here.

Does anyone know of any records for that time or before or after, where I might find them please?

Where would their Parish graveyard be?

So many questions... so any advice most welcome.

Hiya Theresa,
Were William Hamilton and David Spence born in Co. Donegal ???

There's one David Spence listed on www.familysearch.org

He was born in 1833 at Purdysburn, Co. Down.

He died in 1857 but there's no mention of his place of death.

Theresa- civil registration in Ireland began 1864 (1845 for Protestant marriages) so there will be not death certificate until 1864. Some churches might have burial records but you have to know the church and then see if such records exist.
