Lobeck children really confused
« on: Monday 28 September 09 12:33 BST (UK) »
Maybe somebody can expain this to me as to what is wrong here . None of them are alive now.
Gladys Irene Lobeck married  Richard W Hughes June 1917 Cardiff 111a 817.
Search for children Doreen M Hughes B Cardiff Sep 1919 11a 817 .
And Isobel V I Hughes B Havorfordwest Sep 1932 11a 1771

Then Gladys Irene Lobeck married Alan Lovell Hancock Sep 1932 Cardiff 11a 924. Note on Free BMD Lobeck is Alias for Hughes .
Search for children Isobel V I Hancock B Havorfordwest Sep 1932 11a 1771
And Peta E Hancock B Havorfordwest Mar 1938 11a 1544.

So why would Gladys marry twice under the name Lobeck .
And how can the same child be registered twice under a different surname .

Am i missing something here?

                                           Thanks Roy

The child will be registered only once. At the time, there wasn't a column for the child's surname on a certificate. If the mother and father had different surnames that both appear on the actual cert, then both surnames will show on the index.

Hi Roy
When a divorcee or widow remarries, both her maiden and previous married names are noted on the registration index for her new husband.

Free BMD mentions both the names meaning , Lobeck and Hughes were previous names.
It did not say that Hughes was an alias of Lobeck.
Hope this helps.
Cheers
taffie

Hi Mark

Welcome to Rootschat  ;D

According to his profile, Roy hasn't been online here since January 2014. As long as his email address hasn't changed he should receive an email notification that you have posted and hopefully come back soon.

Hi Mark,

I am very sorry but sadly the email we sent to Roy has bounced back to us, it looks like he may have changed his email address...

I have tried to contact a "Roy" but he has a very popular name so not sure that I have the right chap - fingers crossed I have.

Regards

Sarah
