John McLaren - Alloa
« on: Thursday 01 October 09 23:22 BST (UK) »
Looking for a death for the above, dob c1786 Alloa.  Married Jean Watson in 1808 Alloa.  On his daughters death cert (Jean Hall c1817) his occupation is given as Master Mariner, have them on the 1851 census at Clackmannan, he is listed as ship owner and sailor...Nothing on SP that I can find  ??? consequently have no parents for him.

Don't know why..but this is ringing bells somewhere, it may have been mentioned in other "posts"  ::)

Any help appreciated.  as always patvp

Am not doing any good at all here....just spent another 30 odd credits on SP.
Cannot find a birth nor a death...possibility in 1785 John McKleran to John and Margaret Ferguson...don't have nuch chance with naming pattern as they only had 3 children..alive that is  :P John 1808, John 1812, James 1814, Jean 1817 all born Clackmannan.

Is there anywhere that anyone may know where Master mariners were listed or registered or "whatever"

Can anyone help pls.....Regards patvp

Thanks for the Caz - am not sure  ??? as no occupation is listed, but i doubt it, so the search continues..There is a John McLaren (shipowner) listed on SP in Wills and Testaments !!!! but cannot seem to access it..there are three pages and am not sure if they (SP) want five pounds per page or five pounds for the lot, from memory the date listed is 1833, but still have him on the 1851 census and as you know have no idea when he died..frustrating to say the least..if it's five pounds per page will have to wait until I can afford more credits  :o

Have been trying to get in through the back door..so to speak.. via his son James 1814 Clackmannan, there is a James who is also a master mariner..name of ship the "Rob Roy" think this a possibility and am trying to sort out the mess, could be him in a later census at Leith Midlothian with a daughter Margaret S McLaren supposedly born 1862 Kincardinshire, Killiallun ?? but am unable to find a birth for her Possible mother ? Scotland.

So on with the search...Regards Patvp
