Hi Cardiff

I'm not quite sure what information you would like but his service records will be at the National Archives, Kew, London.  It would probably be a good idea to try and find some kind of evidence for date/place of birth (census perhaps?) before embarking on a search as I suspect that there may well be more than one Henry SMITH

Good luck

If this is for your family chronicles, and you want background info. on the ship itself,
then Google "HMS Himalaya" (with quotes !)

For instance:

at: http://www.britishempire.co.uk/forces/navyships/troopships/troopshiphimalaya.htm

[...] She gained battlehonours in New Zealand 1863 - 66 [...]

 Hi
Thank you for your feed back Berlin-Bob I have that info.

and thank you casalguidi for your input
I have Henry Smiths Marriage certificate it sates Himilaya on the marriage certificate under residence at time of marriage in 1868.
Sadly I loose this family completely until they turn up  in 1873 in Ormskirth  South Port when they have thier second son .Later on the census returns they have  change their surname from Smith to Jackson changing it from place to place ... my theory is could Henry Smith be a deserter? How long did these naval men sign up for? and is there a list giving men who disappeared?
 cheers cardiff
