Gorton Cemetary
« on: Monday 05 October 09 18:40 BST (UK) »
Hi all,

Does anyone live near Gorton Cemetery?

If so would you mind taking a trip there. I'm a little bit confused about my G. Grandfathers grave. He has 2 other people buried with him and I can't tie them in to my family tree.

The grave no. is Bnoncon 319 and is for Henry Albert Hakesley b. 1861, d.1851, buried 7/2/1951.

The burial record states a Robert Henry Hakesley and an Emma Hakesley are interred with him. I need to know if there are any details about them.

Thanks in advance.

Regards

Alijet

Hello Alison
Sorry to disappoint you but no headstone at the location of the grave . A great many have been laid down and some cleared by the health and safety people , also to help maintain the cemetery .
I am sure you have checked free BMD but just in case they have Robert Henry as 31 yrs and Emma as 77 yrs .
Hope you find out who they are.
Regards
Eric

Hi Alison

Emma Hakesley died 10/6/1922 aged 77  birth appx. 1845

On the index for 1901 census there is this family living in Manchester

Robert Hakesley  b. 1850  Clayton Manchester
Emma wife  b. 1846 b. Wales
Mary E b. 1881 Barrow in Furness
Eliza    b.  1882  "                "
Florence b. 1888 "               "

Sorry I don't have a subscription to A.....try to get the full details

Also you can check for this family on the 1881 census familysearch site

Hope this could be of help to you.

I'd appreciate anyone visiting Gorton Cemetery to locate the following individuals:

John Holt (husband)
B: 1878 Clayton Droylsden, Lancashire, England
D: possibly Apr 1920 Gorton, Lancashire, England

Martha Ann Holt (wife - maiden name Unwin)
B: 1883 Gorton, Lancashire, , England
D: possibly 1942 Gorton, Lancashire, , England

Any of John's brothers:
George Holt (b.1883-)
William Holt (b.1890-)
Robert Holt (b.1894-)
Arthur Holt (b.1896-)

Or his children:
Sarah Ann Holt (b.1903) in Gorton, Lancashire, England who married a William Eric Stanley and is definitely buried there.
Robert (b.1904) in Gorton, Manchester, Lancashire, England he never married and again is buried there.

Harold Holt (b.1916) in Chorlton, Lancashire

I have no chance of visiting Gorton and know all of the family lived and died in the area...

Thanks
 ;)

Hi all,

With Migkys help, I have now worked out that Emma was Henry's sister-in-law. Her husband Robert is buried in Philips Park!! Also, Migkey found some info. on Robert Henry, unfortunately, I'm still not sure how he ties in to my family. I guess I will have to order his death certificate. Thank you Migkey.   8)

Again, thanks to Eric, sorry it was not a successful journey. However, I have written to Gorton Cemetery to find out if anyone has kept a record of removed gravestones. So fingers crossed. If I get any further with this I will let you know.

Thanks to all

Alijet ;D
