Francina Radcliffe
« on: Tuesday 06 October 09 23:11 BST (UK) »
I wonder if anyone has any information about Francina Radcliffe - who may have been born Francina Towne. She may have married Charles Radcliffe.   If this is the case I think they were maybe from Hull.  Francina died in 1789 aged 57.

Would be grateful for any information!

Thanks

From IGI (familysearch.org) parish record extract

Charles Ratcliff and Francina Towne married 30 Oct 1755 St Martin, Coney Street, York

The nearest match for her baptism on IGI  (parish record extract) is a  Frances Townes, father Richard 3 Jun 1736 Kingston upon Hull

There is a member record (not a parish record extract so caution is needed as they can be unreliable) which shows Charles Radcliffe born 1718 Huddersfield, death 23 Oct 1768, burial 1 Nov 1768 , parents William Radcliffe & Elizabeth Taylor - this record also shows spouse as Francina Towne. If correct then there is a parish record extract for Charles' baptism in Huddersfield St Peter 26 Apr 1716, father William.

All the best

Thanks for that....

This is not a relative of mine, but I have something inscribed with her name and a date.  I was curious to know how it came to be in our family, but I suspect the only connection is Kingston upon Hull.

I am currently searching for information about her older brother, William Towne Radcliffe, who in 1851 was living at Smith House, Lightcliffe.

If Francina died in 1789 aged 57 she was born about 1732.

If William is her older brother, then born by 1730, which would make him 120 if alive in 1851.

How have you got back to him?

Yes, thank you.  I have those records, plus the information about Smith House and the Moravians and Wesley.  I am searching for information about his earlier treatment as a lunatic. So far only TNA has some details (at a cost, and not online).
Thanks again
