Hello Kanga, akanex2, and aghadowey,
Thank you all so much for together solving this mystery for me.  I have been mulling it over in my mind since February last, and now it is solved!!!
I realise now that the certificate is in error, and this is the baptism of my gggrandfather, prior to his death in 1882.  The certificate should read 1/12/1882, as he died in December of '82.  His wife, Rose Ann Daly, whom he married in St Malachy's in 1855, was a Catholic, and she died in 1865.  So that may be the reason for his conversion.  He did not marry again I think, as he is recorded as a widower on the death certificate.
I never thought to investigate the Rev E Hassett, and missed the dates of St Malachy's church being built, entirely.  Due to your marvellous work, now it makes sense!
I am wondering if there were two Isaac Rodgers in Belfast around the same time.  I saw the address of 1 Seymour Lane in 1861 index.  'My' Isaac had Murphy St as his address on the death certificate, but he may have moved.  What is puzzling is that there is a 'Rogers and Thompson' Victoria Weaving and Finishing Co in Seymour St in 1871, with also an Isaac Rodgers living in Symons St.  I am not very familiar with the Belfast geography, so wonder if another Isaac owned this?..    Also, an Isaac Rodgers signed the Ulster Covenant in 1912, (three lines above a rather famous Belfast name!!).
Once again many many thanks for your great and detailed help. Much appreciated.

May I just add something else.
Rev Edmund Hassett was 46 in the 1911 census (may have been almost 47?) so that makes him 19 (at a stretch) at the end of 1882.  It seems young to have been ordained a priest, but then may have been the norm in 1882.
Does anyone have any comment on his being this age, could it be correct?
Thank you,
Lucy

Does seem a bit young but perhaps age in census wasn't correct.
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!

I wonder if there was any connection between James Rodgers, bottler, in the 1877 directory at Murphy Street, and your Isaac Rodgers.

Thanks Kanga

I do not know if the Symons St Isaac is related to mine, but it is possible he is a nephew???

I have found Isaac Rogers (without the d) in the Griffiths Valuation in Seymour Lane Townparks Cromac. (Irish History Foundation website)    I think that he may have been part owner of the Victoria Weaving and Finishing Co. of Rogers and Thompson.   He is recorded as a labourer on his death certificate.

I have a marriage cert also from the Irish History Foundation website, for a marriage to Rose Ann Daly, 1855, in St Patrick's Church.  I think this is correct as these are the parents of William, my ggrandfather.  I am sure William had siblings, a sister in particular who maybe married a Savage, as the name Rose Ann Savage is coming up on all my Baptismal certs of William's children.  And she is recorded as his niece.
I have tried using the lds 'parent search' to see if Isaac and Rose Ann had other children, but cannot work it.  Rose Ann died 10 years after her marriage, when William was two years old.
I intend to search the Church of Ireland records around 1830 (somehow), to find Isaac's baptism, and hopefully his parents.
James  1877 may have been a brother of Isaac - there was a James in Williams family too, killed in WW1.  But I think I have no way of getting names of Isaac's siblings?
Thanks again for all your help and interest

If Isaac was born in Belfast, the Church of Ireland parishes in existence in the early 1830s were:-

St Anne's - Donegall Street
St George's - High Street
St Patrick's - Ballymacarrett
Christchurch - College Square

Ten presbyterian congregations had been established in the city by 1835 and Quakers, Covenanters, Methodists, Baptists and Independents also had Churches in the city by this date.

Thanks akanex2
The marriage of Isaac Rodgers and Rose Ann Daly in 1855 was in St Patrick's RC Church Belfast.  Although Isaac seems to have been Church of Ireland.  If they had married in the Church of Ireland the records would have been more detailed, as they were 'civil' records for marriages.
But unfortunately, as it stands, the record I have from the Irish History Foundation website just states groom's father Rodgers, bride's father Daly, and no addresses.
I am unlikely to get any more information from that, unless I maybe view the actual record on microfilm, but I think there was any more info on it, they would have transcribed it...

I think I may request someone to view the baptismal records of St Annes for 1830, on microfilm in PRONI., for Isaac's birth. Some kind soul may do this, and turn up something.
I also think a copy of a will might exist, for Isaac 1892, although there is nothing on line at the moment.
If he is not in St Annes records, then I have a major job on hands!

At least one major thing has been accomplished, that 1812 baptism has been scrapped, and a lot of useful Church information has been learnt!
Thanks,
Lucy
