Thomas Elliot - COMPLETED (hopefully!)
« on: Wednesday 07 October 09 16:57 BST (UK) »
Hi there,

This is a long shot... but I have hit a brick wall and could use some help to get started again.

My GGGG Grandfather William Elliot was illegitimate. He was born in 1811 in Castleton to Isabella Aitchison and Thomas Elliot.  I am wondering how to find out more about Thomas Elliot.  He is listed on William's death certificate as a Shepherd.  He is not listed as deceased on William's death certificate, but that could just be because the family didn't know if he was alive or dead at the time.

If anyone has any ideas of where to start, I'd be more than grateful.

Cheers,
Clare

Hi,

Thanks for the information, but the Thomas Elliot I am looking for is the father of William Elliot born in 1811 in Castleton.  These might be a relation though.

Thanks for the info Alan.

The Thomas Elliot I am looking for would have been born before 1811, as his son William was born in that year.  However, I'll keep it in mind as another family to check up on to see if there are any links.

Cheers,

Clare,
I think your Thomas Elliot may be a brother of my John Elliot.  Not convinced son William Elliot was illegitimate.   Could Margaret Elliot be a daughter?
The early records for Castleton are a disaster for family researchers.
Gravestone Teviothead Cemetery.  Isabella Aitchison died 23 November 1849 aged 70.

I checked the tree again. I have William born 3-7-1812 castleton married to Christian/catherine CROZIER  25-3-1841 castleton with 4 children Walter Nichol, John, James and William.
WIlliam is the only child shown of Thomas Elliot b 1771 and Isabella Aitchison b 1777 d 1849 Williams parents are not shown.
Both William and Christian are in Castleton churchyard
