completed Thomas Jobson - help with birthplace
« on: Thursday 08 October 09 13:54 BST (UK) »
Hi there, Could someone please make a suggestion for the birth place shown on the attached 1851 census record from the Greatham area, for my ancestor Thomas Jobson, and then which parish records I would need to search. He was born abt 1789 according to a burial record that I have found.  I have been told that there is a link with the name Dobson and he also had a sister named Isabella. I have found a link to possible parents and other siblings on the IGI site but this does not mention Isabella. Could the name Isabella be an alternative form of another name?

Any ideas or suggestions for further research would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome to Rootschat  :)

It looks like Harrinton - possibly meant to be Harraton  - part of Chester le Street Parish until 1850.

OR

Herrington - part of Houghton le Spring Parish until 1842

Thanks for the welcome and such quick replies  :) . I had wondered about Harrington, but the only one I can find is in Cumbria.  The possible link was from the houghton area. I'll try the Chester -le- street records as well now. thanks again for your help.

If it is Herrington (County Durham) there is a possible birth of
Thomas Jobson.

Born 15 April 1789
records Robinson Lane/St. George's Nonconformist,
Sunderland

Parents Christopher Jobson/Ann

Hi Barryd

Thanks for your reply. yes, this is the possible birth/family I found. There are a number of children listed for this couple, including an Elizabeth but no Isabella.  The Christopher and Ann names are also repeated through the next generations and her maiden name was Dobson, so it 'feels' right.

My ancestor is also Thomas Jobson, parents are Christopher Jobson and Ann Jobson  (Dobson). born 1789. Looks like we are researching the same person.
