How strange - she didnt show up with a keyword of 'Stepney'

I guess its cos age is indexed as 'blank' - think I've been caught like that before - just shows that 'specifying less is more'  is a good practice   ;)

Been caught like that too. Now I never enter an age when searching ancestry's 1881 census for a baby :D

Hello Tati and Passed Master,
Thankyou so much for all your help.
I am able to access various Census sites but they are all pay sites except for the 1881 records and its impossible to tell from just a name which is the record you are looking for, so I would really appreciate receiving what you have.

Its the same with George and Ethel - the other two children;  I can get a long list of names but nothing which indicates they are our ones.

I'm thrilled to bits with what you have sent sofar.

regards,
Viv

An update.

George Stephens son of George  and Charlotte Stephens was born 6 January 1876 which would make him 5 for 1881 census.   I think I have found him in the 1881 Census on Findmypast - he is recorded as a visitor at the home of John and Sarah Taylor, 15-17 Jubilee St, Mile End Old Town.   We have no connection to the Taylors that I know of however the rest of the information fits.
Thats the first time I have used that site for Census - so back I went looking for Ethel who I understand was born between George and Annie - making it around late 1876 to 1878.     Cant find a birth.   I could only find an entry for an Ethel Stephens on the 1901 census aged 24 born at Hackney - so not sure if that is her or not.   I also found a marriage for Ethel, London city,  to Harry NORMAN - again not sure if its her.

If you are able to progress this further for me it would be great.

Thanks,   Viv
