Hi Judy,

The most likely birth I see for James A is:

James Albert Brett
Sep 1887 Salford 8d 21

Have you looked up William in 1911 yet? Is he the one in Salford district with a wife Elizabeth? If so, how long does it say they've been married?

My guess would be this marriage:
Mar 1904 Salford 8d 44 (marriage at Salford St Augustine according to Lancashire BMD)

William Brett to Elizabeth Machin

Just a guess though - you'd need the cert to ascertain he's the same person

Hi

William Brett that I am looking for was a coal miner hewer and married an Ethel Beddowes (not sure if this is her maiden name) they had a son James in 1915 in wrexham.

I was told that the family may have originated from Lancs thats why I was interested in the Thomas Brett family of 1901 census.

Also note this thread where a lot of work has been done on the Beddowes surname.Just to save anyone duplicating the effort  ;)

Have born cert for James Brett born 1915 with mother as Ethel Beddowes,

Had tried http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,410413.msg2805506.html#msg2805506
But was now looking at William Brett born 1881 clutching at straws, just back from national archives at Kew no record of marriage of William Brett to Ethel Beddowes around 1913-1915

Hi

I have now been able to work backward regarding William Brett and the information that everyone helped with before is a different person.
I have found that William was 51yrs in 1938 when he married Sarah E Greenwood nee Purdy and that his father was John Brett (deceased) collier, and that they lived in Wythenshaw, Manchester, but when then going on to search the 1891 and 1901 census for a William born 1887 with a father called John, I can't find them. There is a John Brett who is married to a Rose but his is a bolt forger ( is this anything to do with coal mining?)
