Mitchells to canada
« on: Wednesday 21 October 09 14:45 BST (UK) »
I have a Mitchell family who migrated to canada in the 1870s , there was James Mitchell and Margaret Mitchell with daughter Annie Marion Mitchell. I tried to find them in the incoming canada lists from 1865-1935 but with no luck I was wondering if someone could look for it or assist me to any ohter records?

Thanks

Well in order to search for them it would help to have more information - ages, etc.
If you can find them in the 1901 census that should give you a more exact emigration date.
They also may have come via a US port and then moved over the border.

in 1900 they were living in buffalo erie New York state,
and in 1881 they were living in elswick in newcastle upon tyne ,
at this census they had a child who was born in canada 4 years earlier.

They went to canada, came back to newcastle and then they migrated to America.and lived in Munroe county , rochester and buffalo.

I was trying desperatley to find them in the 1871 census and i think you have found them thanks a bunch.
However I am not too sure on the sister in law?

and James and MArgaret got married in 1871.

Annie Marion was from what I have found so far their first child.

Free BMD has a marriage in Tynemouth in Dec 1862 of a James Mitchell and on the same page a Margaret Ann Venteman. REf 10b page 299.

The name sort of fits with the 1871 that hepburn found for you.Making the 1871 marriage a second one perhaps? Or maybe even the wrong one  8)
