Lost Daniel Sharpe Barclay and family after 1889 Greenock
« on: Sunday 25 October 09 02:15 GMT (UK) »
Hi   Ann McMillan married Daniel Sharpe Barclay(an engineer) in Greenock in 1883.  In 1884 their son James Barclay was born.  They resided at Roxburgh Street in November 1889 when their son was accidentally drowned while on his way home from school to his grandmother's home one afternoon.  He went missing on 14th November and his body was found on the 17th November.  (In a viaduct within property of Neill, Dempster and Neill's Sugar House which was near to his home and I presume his grandmother's also.  She lived at 18 South Vennel Greenock and was also named Ann McMillan.)  James was 5years old at the time. I know they divorced as it is stamped on their marriage certificate but when ??  They just both seem to dissapear although I caught Daniel on 1901 census still living in Greenock but in lodgings.  Don't know if their were other children born to them or if they remarried?  Anyone come across them at all?  Thanks Carol

Hi Hibee

Chanced on the site before but went in again today with fresh eyes and I think I may have found a few connections.  Thanks for taking the time .  Good luck with your searches.

Hi Elaine

Thanks for that information.   Found that between the 1871 and 1881 census Daniel Sharpe Barclay's father James Barclay remarried as a widow(his wife Isabella's sister Janet Sharp and they had three children.  So ...in 1881 they have a full house. Daniel 18, Marion 16, James 8 John 2 and Mary ? ( although she can't be an infant as she is down as a scholar). Will catch up with them somehow.  As you say it can become costly on a hunch. Much appreciated Carol  :)

Hey I was wondering James Barclay who remarried Janet Sharpe, what are his parents name? All I can find on them say its either Marion or Mary Ann Gibson, and James Barclay. But, I really don't know if that is correct. Do you know?

creamolafoam I have a picture of Mary Barclays wedding and Janet Sharp is in the picture as well as my GreatGrandfather William Douglas Barclay. I would really like to hear back from you about Daniel Sharp and possibly James and James's father and anything you know up that line if you get a chance. I will attach the picture tomorrow I have it on my work computer.
