*COMPLETED* How can I find his parents?
« on: Monday 26 October 09 14:23 GMT (UK) »
I'm looking for the parents of somebody, he is on all the censuses but the IGI index has no parents noted for him, and as he was born in 1818 I cannot find his siblings either. Is there any other (free) sites I could use, I don't know where else to look.

Where would his marriage cert be held if he lived in Worcestershire - are they all at a HO or kept locally?

Hale - Glos
Timms - Glos
Benton - B'ham

If he married after 1st July 1837, you should be able to find the entry on freebmd

The reference will enable you to apply for a copy of the certificate to the GRO and that will give you (hopefully) his fathers name and occupation

http://freebmd.rootsweb.com

www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/

You could also check for the marriage on www.westmidlandsbmd.org.uk or www.familysearch.org

Assuming that he was married after 1837 then you should look for his marriage on a site like freebmd

http://freebmd.rootsweb.com/cgi/search.pl

It is then up to you whether you order the certificate from the GRO or the local record office.  It should cost £7 from either.  The certificate should give you the father's name.

IGI is not complete, what does he give as his p.o.b on the census returns ? is he consistent if not could the inconsistent information be given by someone else?
i would suggest searching the baptisim registers for the parish church he was local to, these should be in teh Country record office.

perhaps he was a non conformist have you searched the non conformistBMD site?

Yes I could get the marriage cert, but after 4 recent purchases I'm a bit stretched at the mo!  :-\

He married on 30/12/1837

Toni I don't think so, as the census returns are consistent throughout - I went through about 300 names last night just to check!  ;D
I'll try phoning the local offices and see what they can tell me then - thanks.  :)

Instead of us continuing to generalise -  it might be a good idea to give us his name etc together with who he married on 30.12.1837 and where
