I don't know whether to laugh or cry...
« on: Tuesday 27 October 09 17:28 GMT (UK) »
We have just been to Ypres, so we invited a family member over on Sunday (who is interested in the family tree and doing his own bit of research) to share pictures/ info etc.

Well after a blether and a glass of wine we looked into a scottish branch of the tree. After he left I found another two generations back (I hadn't really looked into this side before), so I emailed him what I'd found and then forgot all about it...

Roll on to yesterday, and he left a frantic message.... he had been researching all day and linked us back to...... wait for it...... HERNY1 and WILLIAM the CONQUEROR....

I was nearly believing it as he had linked into someone elses tree..... until I saw the 'gateway' ancestor.....

MARGARET SMITH............

lololol..... and 'our' Maggie was born in a completely different part of  the country to her parents.....

Took me about 30 seconds to disprove :(

Well they say you can't choose your relations..... or can you?  ;)

Tx

I wish we could choose our relations - think how many brick walls we could knock down  ;D

Sparkle, look on the bright side.

Would you want to be linked to a man who probably had his brother shot in the New Forest then left his body there whilst he unceremoniously dashed off to Winchester to seize the Treasury? (not to mention the crown)

.. and there's the little matter of the Tanner's grandson from Normandy invading another country accompanied by the raff, scaff and landless of Europe..

Surely you're better than that?  Sounds like a lucky escape to me!

Definitely a lucky escape..... think my relative is very disapointed though. But I don't know if its because he wants to have royal relations or because I disproved it so quickly  :-\

Think theres quite a few 'family historians' out there that like to 'choose' their relations  :o

 ;D

I would be one of those  :o

especially the last two generations,   would like to do some reorganising there.

Damn.....too late!
