Hi Paul
My interest in the marriage is a little indirect. I have been studying my mother in law’s family, on and off for some years now. She is a descendant of Charles Trew Prebble born 1827 in East Hendred, Berks. One of MIL’s nieces loaned me a collection of Prebble/Hudson photographs and amongst them was one of a Norah Strange.
For some reason I have always wondered exactly how, if at all, Norah was related to the Prebbles. There is a Strange/Prebble marriage – Arthur Madison Strange to Ellen Prebble but this did not occur until 1913, many years after the date of the Norah Strange photograph.
However on widening the search area a little I found that Charles Trew’s father, another Charles (b 1797), married an Ann Trew in 1822. Sometime later I came across the reference to an Emma True/Trew marrying a Thomas Strange in 1822. Since Ann Trew had a sister Emma (b1796) it appears that this may be the same Emma.
I have discussed the matter with MIL’s niece who sent me the photo in the first place and she thinks that ....... “As for Norah Louisa Strange who appears in the Hudson photographs: definitely she was daughter of John Clark Strange, Corn Merchant, born Devizes, Wilts, son of a solicitor, Robert Strange and wife Mary. John C. Strange was living at Streatley, Berkshire when his children were born; the family moved to London and the youngest child was born there. John's brother William Heath was a well-known doctor and founder of the Hampstead Hospital. Norah born 1860 died in 1921 and never married”.
This above origin for Norah does not suggest a relationship with the Prebbles to me and I am yet to be convinced it is correct! Hence my post to RootsChat in the hope of clarifying the relationships further.
It would be good to hear of your interests in the marriage of Thomas and Emma and whether you can throw any light on my query!
Kind regards
Pete
