Please help to Find a Ship
« on: Saturday 31 October 09 12:46 GMT (UK) »
Hi

Ellen KING  born 1908 (lived in Halebank, Widnes, Lancashire) travelled from Southampton to South Africa in the latter half of 1947.

Can anyone tell me the name of the name of the ship and any other details that are written in the ship log books.

Many thanks for your help.

Hi

It would almost certainly have been the Capetown Castle or the Stirling Castle, of the Union Castle Line.

Passenger lists are available (usually at a small price) if you have a search around.

Hi
Thanks for your comments.
I was hoping that someone might have access to Outgoing from UK passenger lists and could look up the Name of Ship and when she sailed from Southampton in 1947.
(I already have access to Incoming passenger lists)
:)

Records of outgoing passengers on FindMyPast show a Mr DS King of 99 Birch road, Hundstead, Rochdale (which is in Lancashire), aged 26 and a motor mechanic, travelling with a Mrs King (no initial or forename given), aged 39 (which would mean a date of birth c. 1908), on the Capetown Castle, from Southampton to Capetown, South Africa, departing on 9th January 1947.  They were onward bound for Southern Rhodesia.

Also on the same page, though not necessarily in the same travelling party, is a 28 year old Mrs King, of 19 Jobs Lane, Coventry, travelling onwards to Northern Rhodesia.
