Birth certificates in 19th Century Japan
« on: Saturday 31 October 09 21:02 GMT (UK) »
Several of my grandfather's generation were born in Japan in the decade 1869-1879
Great Grandfather Charles Herbert Tabor was a master at the Osaka Imperial  College
teaching English to Japanese Scholars.
In this period  two Sons and three daughters were born to Eliza Sarah his wife.
I have a handwritten copy of the birth certificate of Frederic Walter Tabor provided by the Church Missionary Chapel Osaka Japan
"Extracted this Ninth day of November 1875.
I would like to find the other children's certificate bu am unsure where to look
I know that the family lived in both Osaka and Kobe.
Can anyone assist me in this quest
Alf Tabor
(as yet I cannot scan the original certificate into this forum)

May I ask, how did you go about getting the handwritten copy of the birth certificate for Frederic Walter Tabor?  Does the certificate have any details on that would help in locating the other certificates?  Would it be possible to get the other children's birth certificates in the same way as you got Frederic's?

It looks like the Japanese writing on the document could be an address in Osaka for Tabor but it's difficult to read.  Would you have any further details?

It looks to me as though what you have is not a copy of a birth certificate but a copy of the baptism entry from a church register.  I would thus suggest that you should be looking for the records of the Christian Churches  in Osaka and Kobe.
