Kings Lynn St Margarets Burials
« on: Wednesday 04 November 09 12:59 GMT (UK) »
Hi,

Its a big ask, but can anyone in the area help located my Great great great Grandfathers grave for me. I have the parish record which has Richard (mistranscribed as Robert) Kearsley buried on 15th April 1841 at St Margarets. I have contacted the Church and it would appear that the church yard wasn't used for burials from 1803. From 1803 they where carried out in what was then called "The New Burial Ground", a piece of ground leased from the local authority: the burials nevertheless were entered in St Margaret's Burial register.  That was closed by Order in Council in 1854.  In 1899 the New Burial Ground (sometimes called St James' Burial Ground) was cleared of monuments and was laid out as a park, which it still is today.  Many of the stones were set up in close ranks on a nearby piece of ground and are still there.
So I guess I won't find the grave, but the headstone would be the next best thing. Would anyone help please?

Thanks

Matt

You could try the norfolk family history society to see in they have surveyed the stones, they have quite a collection of MIs

It might be worth contacting the Kings Lynn Forum - I believe they have listed a large number of graves, I think for St. James.

Date:2/10/2021. Hi there - Not sure which year you were searching for the St Margaret Churchyard burials, but I was wondering if you were ever able to find them. I am also searching for my Parlett ancestor's burials/headstones which are listed to be buried in King's Lynn, St Margaret with St Nicholas, Norfolk, England. Not sure what the 'St Nicholas' means but I believe it would still be the St Margaret Churchyard. My ancestor, William Parlett died in 1845, Edward Parlett (abt 1803-1873); his wife Sarah died 1883, John Garland Parlett(1843-1886);his wife Sophia Coker(1842-1921). I believe they were all buried in St Margaret's. Anyway, was just wondering if anyone could assist me in finding any information? I am new on this website and understand I need to make 3 posts before anyone can answer me? not sure if I'm understanding this correctly but hope this message reaches others who may be able to help in my endeavour. If So, Very Thankful, Sher in America.
