WW1 Service abbreviation
« on: Thursday 05 November 09 09:01 GMT (UK) »
For the life of me I cannot find the post/link for abbreviations on WW1 service records.

I have someone who went into hospital in 1901 South Africa with VDH and then appears to have died from it. Googling has not helped me this time...

Perhaps some kind person could point me in the right direction

Hello John,

A quick Google turned up"Valvular Disease of the Heart"

Thanks for that Phil, I guess in 1901 that could be quite fatal  :(

The only one I know of is Venereal Disease Gonorrhea.

A clue would be if his pay was stopped during the period of treatment, assuming he was confined to hospital etc, as I believe it was considered self-inflicted.

The VDG is described as "Mild" which suggests the extremely common vomiting etc, not sure you can have mild VD (bit like slightly pregnant?)
