I also have a person I am researching who was admitted to No. 11 Canadian Hospital, Moore Barracks, Shorncliffe, Kent, on Feb 4 1919 for VDG.  A google search for VDG in WWI came up with the following:
VDG - Veneral Disease Gonorrhea

You can copy and paste the following into your search box on google. There are some great explanations for First World War abbreviations used in personnel eecords.

GH - General Hospital
GSW - Gun Shot Wound
NYD - Not Yet Diagnosed
SH (Sty H) - Stationary Hospital
VDG - Venereal Disease Gonorrhea
VDS - Venereal Disease Syphilis

In addition to suffering on active service, it seems he enjoyed active recreation.

I'm fairly sure it would be the venereal disease option because my husband's grandfather has the same VDG on his war records and he was very badly affected. Had to be sent over to England from Egypt for treatment which took months.
