Hughes family of Llanfaethlu and Llanrhydlad
« on: Thursday 05 November 09 12:52 GMT (UK) »
I'm looking for anyone else researching the Hughes family from Llanfaethlu and Llanrhydlad.  William Hughes b. 1849 in Llanrhydlad was a farmer and butcher and he married Catherine Davis b.1848 Llanfaethlu on 30th April 1867 in Llanfaethlu.  They had 13 children between 1868 and 1889, the first of which. Elizabeth Ann Hughes is my Great Grandmother.  The others were Hannah (b.1870), Mary. E (b. 1872), Evan (b. 1873), William. R. (b. 1875), Cathrin (b.1877), Margaret (b. 1878), John.D (b. 1880), Alice (b.1880), Elen.I (b.1882), Owen (b. 1885), Susannah (b.1887) and Edith Violet (b.1889).  All info gratefully received.

Hello and apologies for not replying sooner.  I'm piecing together the Hughes family and so far I don't have too much on Edith.  I think she married Arthur Thomas in 1937 and died in 1980, but that's about it, so I'd be interested in filling in the gaps and sharing information.

Thanks for the quick reply and my research appears to show that Edith had 12 siblings and my Great Grandmother Elizabeth was the oldest, 21 years older than Edith and she married William Williams in 1891 and they had 4 children, 3 girls and my Taid, John.  I had Edith and Arthur married in 1937 and that would mean Edith would have been 48, so that does not appear to be correct, so when did they marry?

There were 4 sons and I have Owen (b.1885) farming in Anglesey in 1939, so I don't think it's him.  John Davies Hughes (1879 - 1967) lived in Anglesey all his life, so he's out.  William Richard Hughes (b.1875) was a ship steward, living in Fishguard in 1911, so he may have liked to travel, but as he worked for GWR and was on the Irish ferry route he looks unlikely. The final son is Evan (b.1873) and I can't find anything definite about him after the 1891 census, but there are alot of Evan Hughes in Wales, so that's not proof he went to America, but he would be my favourite candidate for emigration.  I'll keep looking.
