« on: Thursday 05 November 09 20:58 GMT (UK) »
Hi...can anyone provide any additional information on this family......

John Whelan (c. 1845-1918) who married a Rosanna (c.1853-1932 (don't know family name).
They had 5 children that I know of...
Sarah
John (c. 1883-1960)
Minnie (c. 1892-?)
Michael
James (c. 1888-1963). James married a Bridget Byrne (b. 1887 in Ballinglen d. 1970) in 1926 in Kilavaney, Tinahely.
The address for James was given as, Rathnagrew, Hacketstown, County Carlow
Both James and his father John were given as farmers.

Has anyone any information that can add to what I have.

Thanks,
Tom.

try

http://pilot.familysearch.org/recordsearch/start.html#p=collectionDetails;t=searchable;c=1408347

I think there's a John Whelan in 1881 -- matches up with Rosanna Corry -
if not try 1882

.. do check it yourself, to be sure
(with this site, if you know one full name, you can then enter just a Christian name of the other person - see if they match)

Hi Tom,
John Whelan the younger was a witness at my great grandfathers wedding in 1911.His name was Edward Roche, a Watchmaker from wexford town who probably worked for Nathaniel Thompson, a methodist watchmaker/Jeweller in Tinahely round the turn of the 20th century.
My great grandmother, Marcella Geraghty was a dress maker as were Rosanna Whelan and one of her daughters. I can only assume they became friends in that way. Another witness at their wedding was a girl called Mary Brennan who was an 18 year old dressmaker from the town. perhaps they all worked together at the time? I haven't been able to find out any more info about them.
Hope this helps in some way
