the records at the Glam archives in Cardiff appear to be relatively recent, but that could be because the site in Ely became Ely Hospital which closed in 1996.

Hi
I found a birth certificate of my great uncle who was born in Union Work House St John Glam 1879.  Are there any records available that would show when my great grandmother entered the work house and date she left?
many Thanks Mary-Agnes

If you search for Union Workhouse, St. John, Cardiff a great deal of information will appear including the census of 1881 showing lists of staff and inmates. You can see if she was still there at the age of two and it may show her parent(s) too.

What was the name of the mother and child, and when was the child born?
