If protected mode is annoying you then you might as well turn it off.

What protected mode tries to do is to stop viruses or trojans (fake programs) from being saved to your hard drive.  If you have an anti-virus program and a firewall running then they should both be offering your the same type of protection.

hello downside,
protected mode isn't annoying me as such, I just want to be able to download the images as I did before from the Anc* site, but with it on I just can't do that for some reason.

I should have had the Ancestry page open!  but it still asks for the https not http ? this is confusing.
I just hope I'm not annoying you!
