Italy: Trying to trace Charles Festorazzi

Hello all, I hope you will be able to point me in the right direction on this.

I am trying to trace Charles Festorazzi who was born it Italy about 1808.  He married Charlotte Langridge in Tunbridge Wells on 26 Dec 1831. They had at least six children, Mary, Charles, Peter, George Thomas, Ellen and Sarah.

I think he stayed in Tunbridge Wells from his marriage until his death in 1886 aged 82, also in Tunbridge Wells.

On the census years that I have found, it only says he was born in Italy, (no town).  It always gives his name as Charles Festorazzi.  Never Carlo.  I cannot understand this, if you want to sound more English surely you would change both names.
And Carlo is easy to pronounce for English people, Festorazzi is a real tongue twister.
I wondered if it was possible that he was born in Italy, with an Italian father and an English mother.  Maybe he came to England when he was very young.

As his marriage to Charlotte Langridge was before 1837, how can I get a copy of the marriage register?  This may or may not give the bride and grooms parents.

Is there any way I can find out when he came to England and which Italian town he originated from?

Thanks for coming back to me.  I have found another two children, Ellen born in 1851 and Sarah born in 1853. 

Do you know where I can get a copy of his marriage record?  Is there any list of immigrants to this country, by name or year and if so,  is it on-line or where can I get a copy?

Do you know if there are any Italian BDM records on-line which are fairly easy to follow.  (Unfortunately, my Italian is absolute zero)

You could try pasting a link to your Europe post on a new topic on the Kent Board asking for any info ie Churches & Parish Records in Tunbidge Wells, for c1831 to see if anyone has a CD or can help in any way. I'm not sure what information you'll get though.

You are  having a problem with Italian and my problem is with Swedish

Hi Torre: The IGI's version of the 1881 UK census has Charles FESTORAZZI listed as the head of the household; he's male, age 74, born in Italy, and his occupation is tea dealer. He was living alone in 1881 at 30 Tunnel Rd., Tonbridge, Kent, England. RG11 piece 0914 folio 124 page 22.

Son George FESTORAZZI, with a wife and a large brood of children are living at 8 Shaftesbury Rd, Tonbridge, Kent, England.   RG11 piece 0915 folio115 page 32.

Couldn't find any other children in 1881, but you might try variant spellings of the last name.

Being of Italian ancestry, I can tell you that birth records in Italy are held at the local (i.e., town) level for the period you're talking about here. I searched Festorazzi on the IGI and came up with one result from a place near Lake Como in northern Italy.

I searched the name on the Ellis Island site in the U.S. to see if places of residence might be found for any Festorazzis coming into the U.S. But there were no Festorazzis/Fastorazzis (or other variations of the name) coming into the U.S. at all.

That would be very helpful. I have very little to go on at present as I have no idea where my ancestor, Abram Carlson came from. There is one in the IGI 1833 [he died aged 52 in 1885] but I am stuck at the moment. I have posted on the Swedish board on here too.
I have used the website recommended on the Swedish board to post a message and await any answer.
