Birth/Baptism - William WALLACE
« on: Sunday 15 November 09 03:06 GMT (UK) »
I am looking for information on Wiliam Wallace Sr who married Sarah Williams.  Both were born about 1780.  They had 2 children William and Ellen.  On William Jr's marriage notice it stated he was from Chestnut - Hertfordshire - however that could be Cheshunt - Hertfordshire England
Any help would be appreciated.

Hi bcseeker,

Are you sure that Sarah's surname was Williams?

The only two marriages I have found are:
William WALLACE married Sarah THORGOOD at Much Hadham 19.10.1801
Children: William (1803), Thomas (1805), Mary (1807) Charles (1810) and Samuel (1812)

OR

William WALLIS married Sarah Clements at Cheshunt 19.09.1796

It's possible that either of the above ladies may have been a widow and Williams was her maiden name.

Not much help I'm afraid  ::)

The 1913 Ontario death registration for William Wallace Jr stated that his parents were William Wallace and Sarah Williams.   William Wallace Jr born May 1, 1843.  On William Jr's ON Canada marriage certificate it said he was born in Chestnut Hertfordshire ENG and that he was a widow.
Another family source said that William Wallace Sr and Sarah Williams lived in Kent England.  The 2 children that we know of are William Jr and Ellen.  Ellen became a missionary in Africa
William Wallace Jr was a gardener and landscaper who immigrated to US and was told that he set up a business, married and had 2 children.  Wife and children apparently died of plague and he moved to Canada about 1880.  I have no proof that he married in the states he could have married in England and then moved to the States.

I have a photograph of Sarah Williams Wallace

William Wallace Jr born May 1, 1843.

If William Wallace and Sarah Williams were born c. 1780 as you originally said - I don't believe that William Wallace Jr, born 1843, was their son as they'd have been abt 60+ yrs old when he was born.

Do you have the birth certificate for William Wallace Jnr?

It should state who his parents were including his mother's maiden name and his place of birth.

There are only two births registered for a William Wallace in Herts abt that time - one in 1841 in Ware and the other in 1845 in Watford. Neither appear to match your information.

Do you have the Wallace Family on any census in UK as that may clear up any anomalies?

Di

Oh that's a good find Gardener

No wonder I couldn't find a WALLACE  ::)

So it appears that Sarah Williams was born c. 1821 and William Wallis was born c. 1817, both in Cheshunt according to the 1851.

Only as you said bcseeker, hard to see that parents of William were born so early. And in fact these ones are much younger so perhaps it is not the right one?
