Dear Jenny, have just registered and found your posts. Arthur Macneice was my great grandfathers brother. My mother has living memory of Arthur. He was born in Malta and his older brother John Samuel was born in Canada. Their Father Daniel was in the army and was stationed abroad. They did have other siblings but have not tracked down all the names yet. The 1911 census doesn't come up with their father or another brother who I believe was also a Daniel and at some time Alderman. Further complications arise from the fact that thier father Daniel was married to Elzabeth, thier brother daniel was married to another Elizabeth and so was your Arthur. Daniel (brother) lost his wife early at the age of 33 in 1904. Daniel (their father) lost his wife Elizabeth in 1912 at the age of 72 and he died in 1916 at the age of 82. I don't have a death notice for the brother Daniel. There are further problems because Arthur is registered as MacNeice and John Samuel as McNeice. They are however the same family. Arthur was a company secretay but am not sure what company, Samuel was a solicitor and became county coroner for limerick in 1922. There was a family firm of lawyers but I don't know if Arthur was involved in it but it seems likely they all did some sort of business together. Thier Father Daniel worked for the Limerick Harbour Commision, we think on his return from the Army he had been offered the job and then bought his family to Limerick. He and his wife lived at Harbour view terrace Limerick. At some point we come from the west of Ireland but I will know more if and when I can track down Daniel's army service record. There is talk of a native American greatgrandmother too from canada!!May just be talk but fasinating non the less. Anyway seems you and I are distant cousins.I live in Surrey England but am planning a trip later this year to Ireland to research some more. I notice your last post was November 09 so I do hope you get this.
