I can not see how to write a new topic in the HOW TO USE ROOTSCHAT forum.

This Beginners forum has a button so I can write in here.

But the Forum I want only has a NOTIFY Button?

Spent an age reading since joining and dont seem to be making a dent in the unread topics list, so just wandering if their is a way to ignore all but recent unread topics?

Many thanks, Mort

The "HOW TO USE ROOTSCHAT" must be a topic, not designed to be added to.

Just post a question wherever your quer(ies) lie.

You could go to the top right hand side of the page, and click 'show unread posts since last visit'.
Doubt you'll get through all the unread posts.     It's a very busy forum!

Clicking 'rootschat.com' at the top left hand of the page - black writing - brings you to the main page, where you can scroll down and narrow your areas of interest to have a look, eg common room, England and individual counties, Wales etc, technical, photographic (recommended) etc etc.

Hi Mort

Welcome to Rootschat.  Which Forum are you looking at.  I've looked at a few at random, including How to Use Rootschat, and they all have at the top right hand side of the list of subjects, Notify, New Topic, New Poll.  All you have to do is click on New Topic and start your New Topic.

Not sure what you mean about not making a dent in the unread topics list.  If you mean the "Show unread posts since last visit" which is right at the top of the page, where it probably says Welcome Back Mort 29, this should only show topics that have been posted since you last visited Rootschat.  Of course, if you haven't visited for a while, there will be lots of topics.  You can just read the first few, or if you really want read them all.  If you then leave Rootschat, and go back in a short while, you will probably find there are only 1 or 2 pages of unread posts.

If you mean "Show new replies to your posts" this will have lots of pages, if you've made losts of posts, either your own or in reply to other people, but the last column will show you which are new, i.e. today or yesterday etc.  If you visit Rootschat regularly, there won't be many replies to your own posts outstanding, so it shouldn't take you long to read them all.

Hope that explains things a little.  However, if you don't get on Rootschat very often, it's probably better just to go to the boards you are interested in, i.e. Beginners, The Common Room, specific counties etc. and concentrate on those.

Lizzie

It's definately a Forum, with Topics currently being added to, but I dont have a Button to be able to create new query?

as I said, the question is simply - "just wandering if their is a way to ignore all but recent unread topics?"

Thank you both: I have been using the 'show unread', hence the query.

Thank you Lizzie, as stated I do not have that button in that Forum. I do in this Beginners Forum which is why I had to ask the question here. I only joined yesterday, so I guess the 'unread' list will be long until I have come here a bit more.

Thanks again to all.

strange, looking again, that Forum now has a 'New Topic' button.

perhaps its because I did not have any history up till now?

altho' that would negate the benefit of being able to ask about using Rootschat for a beginner.

Confused a little more than ususual.  :-[

PS. Discovered the smile buttons

Mort

I think you have to have made a few posts (?3) to get full advantage of the site, but you could still read How to Use Rootschat without posting.

I could have, but when did you last 'Read the Manual' first  :)

Point taken tho'; thanks again for your help.

Have had a good browse thru and it is an excellent HELP topic overall, but does not address my specific query.

What are Sticky Topics (and why) ?
How do I find my Messages ?
Why are topics Locked ?
What do the RootsChat stars mean ?
What does Rootschat Extra, Veteran, Aristocrat, etc mean ?
What is 'Restricted User' status ?
What is 'Selective User' status ?
What does 'In Quarantine' mean ?
What does by a posting mean ?
How do I add an icon to my post ?
Why a YELLOW folder icon, not blue ?
Why is there there no 'Reply' button ?
Number of Posts = 'leet' ?
Is there an easier way of reading long topics ... ?
How can I post a long reply, without it disappearing ?
'An Error has occurred ....', what can I do ?
I can't get back to the search list with the 'back' button ?
Why do I get my PM just 'quoted' back at me ?
I am not receiving any e-mail notifications of new replies ?
How can I link to a post in my reply ?
Why do I need need to scroll left and right to read the topic ?
Why is there no 'modify' button on my posting ?
My request is completed, can I delete the topic ?
I've made a mistake, can I delete my topic ?
My computer freezes up when I try and use the chatroom ?
'The topic or board [is] either missing or off limits to you' ?

nor does Posting Guidelines.

Not a worry, I think I'm OK now. Thanks again.

There should be a 'new topic' button for this board (between 'notify' and 'new poll')- do you mean that the other buttons are there but not that one?
