1841 lookup: GOSLING, Macclesfield/Hazel Grove
« on: Friday 11 March 05 19:21 GMT (UK) »
Please could someone with access to the 1841 census have a look for my gggrandfather William Gosling, born ca 1825 in Macclesfield.  I have been unable to find a birth record, and am clutching at straws....  I believe that by 1851 he was living alone in Hazel Grove, although I haven't actually seen that census myself - I have the results of my uncle's research, but not his notes or sources.

I would be most grateful for any help!  :)

Hi MR
I have looked at the 1851 and your Willian G is married by then and living with inlaws, the 1841 shows him as a 15 year old living in lodgings in Hazel grove , can I suggest you purchase his marriage certificate to find his fathers name, without it there is no point in searching the Macclesfield census.

Thanks Peter - unfortunately marriage cert does not give father's name, which is why William is proving hard to locate.  A William Gosling attended Roe St Sunday School in Macclesfield between 1829-1838, but my uncle was unable to find a baptismal record.  This seems to be the only avenue left, but will have to wait until I have access to an LDS centre!

Thanks again for your time,
