Burial Maps
« on: Friday 27 November 09 15:40 GMT (UK) »
Could someone please advise from who or where I could obtain a map of the burials at St Mary's in East Molesey and also St Peter's in West Molesey. I have relatives buried there and would like to pinpoint where they are buried.

Thanks

Hi

If the local family history society has transcribed the monumental inscriptions then sometimes a map is produced to show where those gravestones are. The majority of people who were buried could not afford gravestones or memorials that have survived for any lengthy period of time. The church and villagers had no need of a producing a burial map since they knew from memory where their relatives were buried in the churchyard and where they were likely to be buried when it became their turn.

It looks as if East Molesey churchyard was closed to further burials in 1860 and Molesey cemetery was opened in 1866.
