Looking for a Washington birth 1908 for Ernest G Cranke. Can't find any WW2 Draft or information after 1930.

He appears on the 1910 and 1920 census for Spokane Ward 1 and in 1930 under Ernest Crance for San Francisco.

Thank You.

On the 1910 Census Birdie Cranke's sister is living with the Cranke family which indicates Birdie's maiden name may be WILSON.

And on the 1930 Census Ernest Cranke's occupation is listed as "boxer".  The SS Death record below lists this man's mothers maiden name as WILSON and his father's surname as CRANKE.

Is it possible that Ernest changed his name when he was fighting?

Name: Edward Ogaffney
Birth Date: 6 May 1908
Birthplace: Washington
Death Date: 11 Jan 1948
Death Place: San Francisco
Mother's Maiden Name: Wilson
Father's Surname: Cranke

Hi Merjones.

Thats right his mothers maiden name was Wilson, His Mother and Father divorced and Father died in Idaho 1927.

That death record would be to much of a coincidence not to be him - wonder if his mother remarried again after 1930.
It isn't exactly a fighting name is it ?

Strange.

Many Thanks.

The father of Ernest - Henry Croasdle Cranke immigrated in 1903 according to the 1910 census.  I would like to find the immigration record for him.  The correct date of birth is 1880 and he was from England not Scotland.  The WW1 Draft etc ties in with this.

Many Thanks

Virginia Koumarian Ogaffney, born 26 November 1907 in California, died 8 May, 1981 in San Francisco.

It appears that she had at least two children.  Sending their names by pm, due to privacy issues.

Sent an obit link, in case he was your Ernest's son.  (Unfortunately, it did not list the parents.)

Thank you both.

Everything seems to fit with what I have learnt tonight. I will take a look at the 1904 passenger list.  Believe - he had relatives in Chelmsford or that area so it could well be the correct one.

The obit tallies with suggested marriages etc.,

Very Much Appreciated.
Thank You.
