Ridgway family Carterton area
« on: Tuesday 08 December 09 10:08 GMT (UK) »
Hi I am looking for any information about Patrick Ridgway born 17/4/1929 in Auckland, his parents were Agnes Mary Ridgway (Carter) born in Picton around 1909 and his father was Lawrence Ridgway born in Carterton around 1892. Lawrence's parents were William Ridgway (1863-1940) and Mary (Trotter) (1867-?)

I believe Patrick is my father, he arrived on the Southern Cross Wellington in Southampton on 25 February 1957, and he went to Rhodesia from England on the Athlone Castle in January 1959. I would like to see if there is any trace of him and if he has any siblings?

Thank you for any help,

John

Hi John

Here is a link to a website  by a kiwi RIDGWAY researcher.
http://www.reap.org.nz/~chris/ridgway.html

It lists the natal family of the man you are asking about though it doesn't mention him (and as he or any siblings may still be living, we're really  not supposed to mention his or their names and personal details on Rootschat).

I notice the website has Laurence as born 1894 & died 24 Jun 1961. However, the NZ BDM has a Laurence RIDGWAY died 1977 with  dob 4 May 1891. For Agnes the website has born 1909 & died 23 Jun 1996. The NZ BDM lists Agnes Mary RIDGWAY as died 1996 with dob 15 Oct 1908
https://www.bdmhistoricalrecords.dia.govt.nz/Home/

Agnes & Laurence are buried in Kelvin Grove Cemetery, on the outskirts of Palmerston North.
Before their deaths they had lived in Levin.
http://www.pncc.govt.nz/ServicesAndFacilities/OnlineServices/CemeteryAndCremationSearch.aspx

The cemetery listings for each are very detailed and they are buried (Ashes) in the same plot.
{Laurence did die 1977)

On both their entries, the funeral Director is named  - both these Directors are still in business (google) or NZ Phone Directory online. They may have been responsible for placing a death notice in the local paper - probably the Manawatu Standard.

Failing the owner of the Family website I linked at the top being able to help, I would perhaps contact the Funeral directors re what informatiion you might be able to get from them.

Cheers
