Hunting for Hutts
« on: Tuesday 08 December 09 21:02 GMT (UK) »
Hi all,

Please can anybody advise where to start looking for records for St Mary Reading c1850's and chiltern parish records.  I'm not familiar with Berkshire, is it possible any are on line?

Many thanks
Jo  :)

Some of St Mary's are on the IGI, so that would be worth a look.

Do you mean Chilton ??, there isn't a Chiltern - this is an area of hill and woods mainly in Oxfordshire.

edit:

There is one baptism shown and three marriages at St Mary's in a period that spans 1850 (roughly 50 years)

Hi Jo,
There is a parish of Chiltern in Bucks - is that the parish you mean?
The parish of Chilton was in Berks until about 1974 when it was transferred to Oxfordshire.

If its Chilton then I cannot find any "Hutts" listed in either baptisms, marriages
or burials.

Any other names are you interested in?

Thanks Harry and Alan,

Yes it is chilton  ::)  Names I'm looking for in that area are Prior and Hatto and Hutt in the St Mary Reading area.  I'm not at all familiar with these areas so any pointers would be fantastic.

Thanks
Jo  :)

Jo,

Although you can use the IGI, the Hugh Wallis site is easier to use when you know the parish to search.   Have a look here:

Jo,
There are numerous "Hatto" & Prior" names in all three categories in the Chilton PRs from the OFHS.
What or who exactly are you seeking; baptisms, marriages or burials?
and some idea of dates.
I can then do a lookup for you

Thanks for the link Harry  :)

Alan, I'm looking for baptism  of Louisa Hatto born c1815.  She married Henry Prior who was born c1811.  I would like to find the parents of both and possibly their baptisms and marriages as I can't get further back than then.

Many thanks, you're both stars  ;)

Jo
